Tao Beliefs

Taoism is a peaceful, nature respecting Religion, that chooses the way of nature, but also embraces
scientific study. The core structure is based on the philosophy of the Tao te Ching. More a way of
life, whose ultimate goal is liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Not unlike Buddhism, which in
Monk-hood requires the individual to release attachment to everything, because human desire is the
cause of suffering. Taoism respects the fact that to enjoy life an individual must live, hence the
yin-yang principle of balance.

ABORTION

The Tao respects nature, Killing anything is wrong. Our stance is quite strong on murder and
killing. That being said. Unwanted pregnancy should be avoided. Sometimes abortion may be a
solution or only option. Never something to be taken lightly. ALCHEMY
Ancient teachings of Traditional Taoism engages in the practice of internal alchemy. The goal is to
seek immorality of the divine spirit body, and to live a long time, long enough to master the
Practice of Neigong, Correct diet, exercise, meditations, and healthy living are methods to attain
not only a healthy life, but develop the internal medicine, or storage of the vital life force or
CHI/ Qi.

Chi QI

Western medicine seems to think we are just bones and muscle. In High School science many of us had
placed electrodes on the ends of a dead frogs muscle to see it twitch. We are bio electrical. Chi,
Qi, Prana and vital force is the living spirit body that is within us. In Taoism we understand that
this energy has been proven and written about more than 6,000 years ago. It can be strengthened,
passed on to others, stored, harnessed and collected. It can heal, strengthen the body's
constitution, extend life, slow aging and prolong life. It can be used in self defence, and can be
enhanced with exercises such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Several Kung Fu Styles, Diet and Traditional
Chinese medicine.
Einstein — 'Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to
another'.

CREATION

"The Tao begot one.
One begot two.
Two begot three.
And three begot the ten thousand things. "The
ten thousand things carry yin and embrace yang.
They achieve harmony by combining these forces."
TTC:42
We believe in a conscience universe, that we are part of, and make up life in an ever abundant Tao,
Tao signifies the primordial essence or fundamental nature of the universe. The Tao is "eternally
nameless” (Dao De Jing-32. Laozi). We don't believe in a sky deity, nor say that it all just
happened (Big Bang theory)
In Taoism, Chinese Buddhism and Confucianism, the object of spiritual practice is to 'become one
with the tao' (Tao Te Ching) or to harmonise one's will with Nature (cf. Stoicism) in order to
achieve 'effortless action' (Wu wei). This involves meditative and moral practices. Important in
this respect is the Taoist concept of De (德; virtue).
DEATH, THE SOUL AND IMMORTALITY To Taoists, Death is not the end.
Our Spirit (Some people might call this a soul), lives on.
“Since life and death are each other’s companions, why worry about them? All beings are one.”
-Chuang-Tzu
"The beginning of the universe
Is the mother of all things.
Knowing the mother, one
also knows the sons.
Knowing the sons, yet remaining in touch with the mother,
Brings freedom from
the fear of death."TTC:52
As we are part of the Tao, and energy continues on, but just changes form, we believe in
reincarnation. There is really no right and wrong just variations of truth. Positive and negative.
After death we remain for some time as a Ghost, according to our stage or understanding and level
of enlightenment we reincarnate to higher forms. A true sage may choose the time of his death and
may remain in a spirit form as a deity to guide the rest of us, as a a god status, with the ability
to create.
In many Taoist Temples, as in Christian churches, Statues of our most recognised deity's
are represented, Many have been human, some are Spirit creatures than have not been human. Our goal is to live in harmony with the Tao in life, so that after life we can live also in peace
with the Tao.

DEATH, THE SOUL AND IMMORTALITY

To Taoists, Death is not the end.

DIET AND MEAT

As with abortion and death penalty, we believe killing is wrong, these are really choices for the
individual, we also believe that no one has the right to tell you what to do. As a Taoist we
believe that to live in harmony with nature is best and natural, however, If it came down to
survival you may have to kill to eat, or protect your life! DIVINATION
Forces, outside a physical sensory field exist, Wind, electricity, heat cannot always be seen.
Within everyone there is the power, once tuned, to see, hear and feel things that many people
cannot.
Taoism brings us Feng su, I Ching and Astrology
Spirits, Energy flow, and Planetary tides affect
our lives. Its not our job to convince you of anything here. The fact that you are reading this
page says you have Internet access, and can research these things. Showing someone 400 years ago a
modern phone, computer, or TV in the west would have you burned as a witch. As Taoism is the study
of Nature in its entirety, to discount and not try to understand or utilise these forces is to not
grow or move forward.

EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE

Some Sects of Taoism are under the impression that Lao-Tzu, was politically motivated for
statements along the lines of, the less people know about their government, the less likely they
will be to find cause to revolt (some say Laozi believed in "keeping the people ignorant," and
thereby making the masses easier to control). The Tao-Te-Ching (Book of the Way) is an
anti-intellectual, anti-authoritarian treatise which recommends that the way of virtue lies in
simplicity and a recognition of a natural, universal force known as the Tao. Lao-Tzu writes, “When
we renounce learning we have no troubles…The ancients who showed their skill in practising the Tao
did so not to enlighten people. However, by `ignorant’ Lao-Tzu did not mean uninformed but, rather,
purposefully focused on the present rather than accumulating knowledge which leads to idle
speculation and complications in one’s own life and in the larger community. We encourage Learning
and Study.

EUTHANASIA

Euthanasia, as in assisted death in the case of someone who might be artificially kept alive by
machines, is as much against the Tao, as killing someone outright, we must remember that our
highest duty is to the Tao. Death must be accepted and welcomed as naturally as birth, for they are
both part of the life cycle. Family matters are of a personal nature, and again a person has free
will, Could the person have a good chance of survival and good recovery, or is the person
suffering? These are heavy questions. Taoist are not judgemental or preachy.

EVANGELISM

Taoists encourages "silent" evangelism. We do not engage in 'cult' like recruitment behaviours.
Christian bible
Matthew 7:7-8King James Version (KJV)
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you
Lao Tzu also says: Seek and ye shall never find it; do not seek and right now you have found it.
Seeking implies the seeker, and the seeker is the ego, and the ego is the only barrier.
The answers are within, not without
There is nothing wrong with giving a copy of the Tao te ching
to a friend, or helping someone who asks. Taoist philosophy is lead by example. Kindness and
benevolence.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE

With an infinite universe, and endless planets, stars, solar systems, and more Galaxies, than
grains of sands on all the worlds beaches, and scientists constantly fining Stars and planets just
like the ones in our own solar system. It would be ignorant to believe that we are the only life
that exists. If you then consider the spiritual plains and the existence of other dimensions that
can be accessed through meditative states, we are defiantly not alone!

FENG SHUI

Feng Shui is a term composed of two Chinese words: feng (wind) and shui (water). Wind and water are
the two natural elements that flow, move, and circulate everywhere on Earth. The System Dates back
as far as 4000 BC or older. Chinese farmers that had to live closely to the soil and really get in
tune with the rhythms of the planet so that they would have prolific crops. It was all about how
they would position themselves. Prolific crops would bring wealth and health. If you had both of
those, usually happiness would follow. So good health, wealth, and happiness, those tenets are
still applicable today in feng shui. The feng shui practice discusses architecture in metaphoric
terms of "invisible forces" that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as Chi.
Taoists believe that Planetary energies, and earth currents, Magnetism and Dragon lines affect the
flow of CHI and the people that live inside the home. In simple terms we know that Seasons affect
plant growth, Exposure to the Sun or lack of it can affect Moods, Just as much as the moon affects
tides and the documented fact that some people go a little crazy on the full moon, hence the word
Lunatic, many things affect our attitude to life. Feng Shui is a technique and art to arranging the
architecture and house contents to Maximise positive flow of energy. Using the concept of Yin-Yang,
a Feng Shui compass, Two diagrams known as bagua (or pa kua), and other considerations a home or
office can be designed or modified for the best outcome.

GODS AND OTHER DEITIES

We do not believe in the existence of any god or deity. There is order to the Universe and that
order is defined and maintained by the Tao. Many masters have chosen to remain in spirit form as
guide for humanity, they are the statues you will find in the temple.

GOOD AND EVIL

Taoists follow the Way of harmony and peace. We never harm or kill unless it is unavoidable, for
food or self defence. The yin-yang model shows us forces flow into each other. This is but the
first step, though, to enlightenment on the Nature of the Way. There is no duality, as a Taoist
works towards a level of enlightenment, Duellist forces define themselves as one, we are all one,
differences between positive and negative, and ego based definitions fall away.

HEALTH

As we Live, our goal while we are alive is to work on ourselves, to no only be a good and
benevolent soul, but to refine the spiritual body through alchemical processes, with the study of
Tai chi, Qi gong, and Nei kung. We need to stay healthy and live long to master our complete self,
in order to be one with the Tao (the way). There are similarities in the study of Buddhism ,
Hinduism, and the Kabbalah, with similarities in the final goal. Taoism is reasonably free from
dogma.

ILLNESS

Without Balance, we can become sick, the Tao teaches us to live in balance and harmony as close to
nature as possible. The right amount of rest, exercise, sleep, good diet, keeps thing balanced

INTERPERSONAL CONNECTIONS

Chi or vital force, resonates as an invisible spectrum of energy, It can tell others we are happy,
sad, sick, healthy etc. Did you every just unstintingly know when someone was looking at you behind
your back, or get the feeling something is wrong or dangerous? Taoist, work to increase and trust
our natural Chi, and instinctual feelings.

INTOXICATION

Taoist respect that anything is ok in moderation. To go and get mindlessly drunk is to dull the
senses is not the way of the Tao. Balance is the key. Its best also to avoid problem to not engage
in Illegal activity, check with the laws in your country.

KUNG FU

Taoists, recommend regular exercise, and meditation, for a fit mind and body. To harm another is
against the way of the Tao. There are many great Taoist schools of Kung Fu, and they do teach self
defence by attack methods. The use of Kung Fu Systems in self defence as a last resort may be
necessary as a means of self preservation. There is a lot more to Kung Fu than fighting, Such as
mind control, Traditional Healing Methods, keeping fit and agile, Meditation and keeping the mind
active.

MEDITATION

Meditation is used to learn about oneself, to exercise 'no mind' is healing, introspective and a
journey to oneness.

MUSIC AND THE ARTS

All Artistic endeavours are necessary to balance life and the mind. The arts have been discovered
by modern science to be activities of the right hemisphere of the brain. When the left side is used
for more analytical work as in mathematics. Modern Life over stresses Left brain pursuits. Art,,
drawing, painting, dance, writing, cooking, even Tai Chi are all Artistic endeavours and should be
pursued.

NATURE, PROTECTION OF

We are against destruction of nature for greed, and believe in protecting the environment in order
to live in harmony with it. Not against it.

OTHER RELIGIONS, OUR APPROACH TO

We understand that the goal of many religions is peace and benevolence, we respect and tolerate all
peaceful religion. If some one is of a religion that is not Taoism it might be what they need right
now. In time, that belief system may later not serve them. Taoism is a more direct route. We don’t
pray to the Tao, and don’t believe in sins, that require atonement. Life “Just is” as in the Yin –
yang principle.

PROCREATION

Having children if you cant look after them is not a good idea, Contraception is a good way to
avoid to many children to achieve balance.

SCIENCE

Some Scientific research supports Taoism, some does not. Taoist writing are older than 6000 years.
To disect the topic would be beyond the scope of this document.

SEXUALITY

Sex is a normal part of life, as with anything balance is the key, too much expels life force.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION

Many animals engage in homosexuality, therefore natural.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE

Everyone is considered a brother or sister, and has an equal voice

TAO (SEE NAVIGATION LINK TO DOWNLOAD)

"The great Tao flows everywhere, both to the left and to the right.
The ten thousand things depend
upon it; it holds nothing back.
It fulfills its purpose silently and makes no claim. "It nourishes
the ten thousand things,
And yet is not their lord.
It has no aim; it is very small. "The ten
thousand things return to it,
Yet it is not their lord.
It is very great. "It does not show
greatness,
And is therefore truly great."TTC:34

TOLERANCE

Therefore followers of Tao never
use them.
The wise man prefers the left.
The man of war prefers the right. "Weapons are

He uses them only when he has no choice.
Peace and quiet are dear to his heart,
And victory no cause for rejoicing.
If you rejoice in
victory, then you delight in killing;
If you delight in killing, you cannot fulfill
yourself."TTC:31 "A brave and passionate man will kill or be killed.
A brave and calm man will always preserve
life.
Of these two which is good and which is harmful?
Some things are not favoured by heaven. Who
